based on another post i was just reading, i'm not the only person struggling with this problem:
when picking out songs to dance to at your reception, you try to pick songs that suit you and your relationship with the dance partner in question (usually spouse or father), but for some of us, sappy songs just don't work. maybe you never were really close to your father, and a mushy, sappy, nostalgic song would seem out of place. or maybe you and your fiance are...well, offbeat, let's say. i mean, nerds, goths, class clowns, hippies...they all fall in love and get married too. for some folks, their relationship with their significant other isn't the romanticized mushy gushy type of relationship that goes with your typical first dance song.
so...what are the non-mushy among us supposed to dance to? OK, there's no law saying that any of your dances (first dance, father/daughter) have to be a stereotypical slow dance. if you know other dance styles, you could take things in a completely different direction. but for those among us who are barely coordinated enough to slowdance (and there's nothing wrong with being spastic

), finding slow songs that aren't sickeningly sweet is no cakewalk. anybody got any ideas?
