It's often worth the cost of a professional photographer rather than risking losing those once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities because the relative in charge of pictures was catching up with someone they haven't seen in an age. If that doesn't happen, you run the risk of alienating that individual and causing resentment once the day comes, since all the rest of the family will be enjoying themselves, and they'll have to work. That's not why family goes to weddings. You can bet they'll take photos, sure, and they'll probably all be every bit as awesome as the ones you pay for, but it's worth doing some research to find a legitimate company and pay for the service.
