Question Is this dress OK (guest, not bride!)?

Hi,

I am not american (european) and feel very uncertain about dress codes, dos & donīts and what "goes" at american weddings. I hope some of you can help me by giving me your advice!

I am going to a wedding upstate New York (small town) on the 20th of June. Dress code: Formal Attire, and it has been explained to me that this means/the bride & groom expect both dark suits and tuxedos, and for ladies long dresses and short (cocktail?). The men in the wedding party incl the groom will be wearing black suits, but some of the brideīs friends partners will be wearing tuxedos. The bridesmaids long dresses. My husband is in the wedding party.

The ceremony in the church is at 4 p.m and the reception, dinner and dancing at 5:30 pm. The bride is american and the groom Swedish.

I have been looking for a short/cocktail dress but havent found one. However I found this long one (please see attached photos), and am wondering:

- Is it too open/revealing?
- Too dressed up?
- Too "winter-season" because of the shiny satin and goldbrown color (it is lightbrown, even if it looks darker in the photos)?
- Does it look "cheap" and unsophisticated?
- Too ... something else?

Or could it work? It can be taken back to the store and I can get a full refund, so please feel free to be honest!

I would be grateful for any input - so unpleasant to arrive and discover that you look all wrong...

Thanks, Kitte
