I think you handled it just fine. If it's explained to her just as it was to us, then I would hope she understands.
I have a friend that we've been talking about being each other's MOH since we were in middle school (15+ years ago) and when she made her decision, she told me a co-worker that she's only known a few years (and who's moving a few states away!) was going to be hers...now there's some hurt feelings
