Is it JUST me or is $24 for a fat, white candle with a ribbon hot glued around it OUTRAGEOUS!!! Are they KIDDING ME??? I can buy a fat white candle at Big Lots or Michael's for $4! Sheeesh! It's NUTS!I am having an autumn wedding with deep, dark red color accented with gold. This is a second wedding for both of us and do not feel "white" is appropriate. Anyway--does anyone know of any 'do it yourself' unity candle ideas (uhhh , other than to hot glue a ribbon around it)? One friend suggested a dark red candle with gold 'push' pins in the shape of a heart ... kind of like that idea, but I'm not completely sold on it. I'm doing an "autumn" theme---fall leaves, white pumpkins, etc. Thanks for any input you might have--I truly appreciate it! (And so will my pocket book) Melissa |

I agree with you about the price of not just unity candles but almost all wedding stuff. I am having a hard time spending money on things that are just going to be put in a "wedding memory box" (unity candle, guest book, cake topper, just to name a few) and put in the back of the closet. I think that it is a great idea to get a candle and do it yourself.
We actually are doing the sand ceremony because our ceremony is outside and I dont want anychance of the candles blowing out. I found 2 of my vases at the dollar store and one heart shaped one at Walmart for $5. Until I get the sand our unity ceremony is going to cost less than $15. |

Why not buy the cheaper candle from michaels or big lots and then glue the ribbon around it or anything else that you. I know for my sister in laws wedding she took a regular white candle and then hot glued rhinstones on it. It was really pretty and you would never have known. I found my unity candle on ebay and I love it. I can't remember how much I paid for it. I would check ebay out too. :-) Good luck! I love DIY projects.
