Hello, I had a question. What is a good time to start looking/buying a wedding dress before the wedding? A year? 6 months? what? I have no idea. My stepmother is being a b-i-t-c-h about the whole thing and says that most brides buy them like 2 months before the wedding..I know thats not so. So I was just wondering what you guys had to think?

I bought my dress in March of this year and my wedding is in November.

Buy your dress with enough time for you to be able to purchase your undergarments, shoes and jewelry. Also give yourself enough time for you dress to be altered - usually 2-3 weeks.

I would say purchasing your dress 3 months ahead of time is a good start, but try to think about your own schedule and whether or not you want things to be rushed.

Because I work full-time, I wanted plenty of time to do all of those things and I did not want to be rushed.

Bottom line, do what you think is best and don't worry about what other people think.

My wedding is in May- and I bought mine last month--- so I bought mine earlier than most, I think...It worked better for the budget- I put half down to buy, and when the dress comes in- I pay the other half-- so it helped to have it not super close to the wedding- to spread costs out!

I say start looking around as soon as possible. That way you can figure out what you like, what you don't like, etc. I went into it all with one opinion, and after looking around a ton, came out with a totally different style dress that I loved!! That being said, I cut mine pretty close, as I bought my dress only 2 months before the wedding and it needed some alterations. The danger of buying your dress too far in advance is always that you might lose/gain weight. But there is no harm in starting to look around early.

My wedding is going to be May 2008. I was lucky, tried onthe dress I wanted the same week I got engaged (ok, so maybe I had some premature planning going on, and I had the dress picked out way before the engagement). I asked the people at the bridal shop when the latest is that I could order the dress and have it there on time, and they advised no later than November/ December. Remember that unless youare buying off the shelf, wedding dresses take a long time to make, and then there is also the time to alter it. It is never too soon to start looking, ut I would say that you sould be coming to a final decision and ordering about 4-6 months ahead.
