Default My husband's cousin bought my same dress!

My fiances's cousin called me last night and asked me what kind of dress mine was again (it's Maggie Sottero) and the design, and lo and behold, she bought the EXACT same one! I'm kinda mad about it because now everyone's gonna think we did it on purpose, or maybe even that I copied her! My wedding is a good 9 months before hers, but she says doesn't have time to get another one and can't return this one because she bought it off the rack. Help! What should I do? Should I tell her I'm upset? We're not that close and I don't want to have his family hate me because of this.

I'd just let it go. She's the one that's being unoriginal. If it would have been before your wedding...that would be a different story. Plus...it's not about the dress...it's not about the location....it's not about the event. It's about the one that will be standing across from you on that day, and the friends and family who are there to love and support you both.

I know. It's probably not a huge deal. It's just that you look so hard to find the right dress that's "the one", only to find out that it's "the one" for someone else too! I'll just have to make sure that our accessories and hair styles are different enough to make us each look beautifully unique

Maybe you guys should start planning your weddings together? Then you wont have to worry about coping each other, and you could get to know her better.

I actually wore the same dress as my sister-in-law. I had the same thoughts about people noticing but I altered the dress by removing the spaghetti straps and wore my hair up. Not one person noticed unless I told them and even then they said they would have never know! So don't worry, just one small change in hair, jewelry etc. will make them look different.

That's true, I'm sure we can make them look different. And since only one side of the family will be the same people, maybe they won't notice. I'm also using claret and gold for my colors, and she's using pink and mocha, so that should help too. I'll talk to her about her other plans and let her know what I'm planning. Hopefully we both don't have the same exact ideas for our hair, makeup and veils! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who's ever had to deal with this issue!

Its good to know that some one values your test and considers it important. that your view point is good and worthy considering. i think she looks up to you, everything you decide to have will be a great thing in her eyes. Do not be surprised if at her wedding she considers most of the things, colors that you had. just let go and feel grateful that you can inspire someone

You think thats bad, my sister in-law bought the same dress.
I even showed her a pic and she also bought it off the rack.
She even bought the same invitation, but in a different color.
The bad thing about it she is getting married before me. And has only had 2 1/2 months to plan.

The same thing happened with my best friend. Her sister in law and her went shopping for bridal growns for the sil she was got married last year and my friend is getting married this year. Well she just being nice told her sil the dress she picked out and even showed her. Well the sil picked a dress and they went home. Well wedding day came and the dress the sil picked out with my friend wasn't the same dress it was my friends!! And it was even in my friends colors. But my friend just changed her colors and is making sure not to wear the same veil or her hair the same. She said it happens. And didn't get mad. She said it happens and when someone finds the perfect dress you can't change your mind. And I think she's right. The perfect dress for you is gonna be the perfect dress for someone else. But as my friend says, if someone does have your dress just don't tell the groom then it won't be as much of as a surprise. if you don't want him to see it.
Good luck!!

My mom in law made my dress, we picked out two patterns, then decided wich was the best one. She made the basic pattern, then we put on the lace that i liked and one style of the dress had lace only on the front and another had it on the bottom, we put the lace in both places so if you know someone talented, you could alter it that way if need be. or even sew on some beads with your colors then it would look a little more different.
