Default Picked the date?

Hi ladies!

I am in desperate need of some advise. I have been engaged for 3 weeks and am so happy to finally be at this point in my life. However, EVERYONE has been throwing in their 2 cents (and sometimes a whole lot more) as far as the wedding details. People are seriously driving me nuts... mostly my dad.

Anyway, the dilema is this: is getting married on a Thursday night, the day before the 4th of July nuts?? We are thinking that our guests can join us for our wedding at the beach and then spend the long weekend with us, if they choose. We found the place of our dreams which is WAY over budget (not that we have a set budget yet) and the Thursday is a tiny bit cheaper and kinda gives us a leg to stand on to potentially negotiate the price. Some people are already freaking out that a Thursday is terrible, flights will be outrageous ( but with our Save The Dates-- booking in advance will solve that), not everyone can get off on Thursday, not everyone has off on the 4th (retail people) and whatever else people want to whine about. I know it's our day and we WILL do whatever we want but it would just be nice if people didn't have to freak. So... it is totally weird that we chose Thursday, July 3rd? The place we chose is so booked that all they had left was this day, scattered Sundays (then guests can't stay over and have brunch the next day) or late 2008 and into 2009. What's a girl to do? Thanks in advance

Andrea

I found an artical that helped me pick the date and here it is...

Wedding Dates to Avoid - Advice on Picking a Wedding Date and Avoiding Dates that Will be a Problem Later

I think that because it will be a long weekend for most that it may be hard for people to leave work even earlier, I know with me long weekends are a double edged sword because you have to shove the same amount of work into a shorter amount of time. But it is your day so you should do what makes you happy.

Thanks so much for the response... I've seen articles like that linked on here and July 4th is never listed which was part of my problem Thanks again for the answer though!

honestly, the people that want to be there will find a way to be there (with your save the date they can plan their vacation!), and when it comes down to it, the less people the less money you have to spend. I think it's a great idea, and it IS YOUR DAY. Don't let anyone tell you what you need to do.

I think a Thursday is fine. I am getting married next Thursday actually. And I figure the people who are really important to me and those who really want to come will be there. Plus The reception starts at 7 p.m. so most everyone is off work by then, and if they have to leave early it's not a big deal, I mean who doesn't want to leave work early any way. And for some, it gives an excuse to take off Friday and have a 3 day weekend. But if you are doing save the dates way in advance I think you will be fine. The only people who aren't going to show will be those who would rather do something for the 4th of July and those people aren't important any way. I say your wedding gives people a reason to celebrate and party. Hope it turns out great!!

Thanks so much for the replies! First I'm so glad that I'm not the only one going with Thursday and both of you girls are totally right that those who really want to make it will so thanks!

Lightbulb Re: Picked the date?

Hi Andrea!

We actually had the same problem...we chose a venue WAY over budget and they offered the Thursday before the 4th date as a cheaper alternative.

We decided against the Thursday thing because half of our guests are out of town...and we opted for a Saturday AFTERNOON which was even more reasonable than the Thursday evening! This way out of town guests can still book a weekend, and we can still enjoy the venue that we wanted.

Happy Planning!
Anna
