We just got our save the date cards in the mail, but we aren't getting married until July 2008. Our wedding is at a lake in BC and all guests will have to travel there from within BC, Alberta and Ontario. I want to wait a few months before sending them out but my husband-to-be is really excited and wants to send them out as an announcement as well as the save the date card. Any advise on when we should start sending them?

I would think that 6 months would be plenty of time to make travel arangements.

If you wait until July that shouldn't be a problem. We have half of our wedding guests that have to travel 4 hours to our wedding and reception and we waited till February to send them out. There's really no need to send them out this soon it's kind of early and most people won't RSVP until they get the invite or make any arrangement until they get the invite. It's just a neat way to tell you guest hey we're getting married on this date don't make any plans!!

Thats what we were thinking (sending them in July). July is a big month for my family anyways because we have a HUGE annual fishing trip, that I'm kinda messing up for my wedding. We were going to send them out only 6 months prior but I think that sooner may be better so that they don't start making plans for the fishing trip. Not to mention the fact that my side of the family is about 45% of the guest list, if not more!

We sent our engagement announcements out in February...our wedding is in June of 08. On the announcement, we just put "Wedding details to follow." We aren't doing save-the-dates becaue we figure the invites will be enough time for them. Plus, on the announcements, we out that the wedding was going to be in June of 08. I hope this helps a little!

I'm glad to hear that because we are actually doing the save the dates instead of announcements. Kinda combining the two.

We are getting married Sept. 1, 2007 and we handed out our save the dates on christmas. My family has a party on christmas eve that includes about 75 percent of our guest list. This gave us a chance to hand deliver then rather than have to mail them, so it saved us postage. We also set up a website on the WeddingChannel.com and I put that website on the card so we could update our family.
