Is this Tacky?
Ok... so I posted about a month ago on some advice for not wanting presents..but money. We have two kids 9 and 11 and for our honeymoon we are wanting to take them to Disney Land as they havent been their before.
He has been married 2 times prior to me and I haven NEVER been married. We have lived together for 4 years and have everything we need.....Not to mention we live in a 950 sq ft house. Everyone who knows us knows that everything we do, is with our kids, so we didnt think it would be a huge surprise that we would be planning a family trip as our honeymoon. I have seen many ways to tell guests in the invites that you would prefer money..everyhting form coming out and saying it, to opening a bank account. I thought it might be neat to insert a fun poem...so I sat down and wrote one.. PLEASE tell me you girls's honest opinion on what ya think.. most people have like it...but is it tacky??????
We didn't register-
no gift lists to read-
no gravy boats no toasters-
we have all that we need.
we are two families soon to be one-
we are saving our cash for some family fun.
Our honeymoon will happen-
as a family of four-
as we visit california-
and much much more!
So money would be great, fantastic and grand-
to help us take the boys to Disney Land!!

Re: Is this Tacky?
I think your idea is awesome! I love it! I have 4 children, my fiance has 2, and we have everything we need also! I did come up with something, we love home improvement projects, so we thought about registering at Menards or Home Depot. Hopefully no one thinks that is TACKY! We could build a garden shed or put a new front door on the house, or install a fake fireplace. He is a dairy farmer and I am a daycare provider and we don't get "vacation time", so there's no honeymoon in our plans. Does that sound crazy???? Cash would be great, but you can't just ask for it!! Your trip sounds wonderful! So answer mine, is my idea nuts?
Thanks for your time,
Kimberly

Re: Is this Tacky?
noooo Kimberly.. I think thats a cool idea..and NOT tacky!!!
Ya know, everyone has such different views anymore, and some people are sooo old fashioned. Besides.....2 boys and crystal??? NO WAY!!! The last thing I need is to register for a bunch crystal or china...hahahaha
I think your idea is good, Iam glad you like mine.. im still on the fence with it...but I think I will do it, just be selective on whos invite the poem goes into. Like my 76 yr old grama.... she would think it was awfull to ask for money!!!
Thanks for your opinion!!!

Re: Is this Tacky?
You guys are totally in left field. It is never appropriate to ask for money as a wedding gift. Even if the request comes in a cute poem!!

Re: Is this Tacky?
Yeah, technically (according to wedding ettiquette) asking for money is a big no-no. BUT I am assuming that the people that you are inviting are friends and family, who should care more about you and your soon to be hubby than ettiquette that was put in place when wedding were more about the parents of the couple than the couple themselves, and when the wife was moving from her parent's house to her husband's house (hence the need for all the housewares). I think that while not following wedding traditions, it is a really cute idea, and the fact that you are asking for something for your kids to enjoy as well, rather than leaving them with a sitter and going to Hawaii is honorable. If any of those invited to your wedding take issue with that, you shoudl tell them to bugger off.
