Default Save The Date Help!

Hey everyone!

SO. Are save the dates necessary? My understanding is its just an announcement of the date, right? I don't have many out of town guests (a few families are in another city in OK, a few hours away, and then just a couple families are like, 4 states away). So, what would be your advice? Send, don't send, when should I send?

I am a bride without any idea what to do next....Any help is appreciated!

(the wedding is in April of 2009)

This is a question that a lot of Brides ask. In order to answer this there are a few questions that you should ask yourself.

1. Is your event formal? If it is a more of a formal event, sending out Save the Dates cards is usually something that you would want to consider. Simply because this will kind of announce your engagment. This will also get people asking "what should I wear?"

2. Is your event on a holiday or during a holiday weekend? It is a good idea to send save the date card if this is the case, because people like to plan ahead for the bigger holidays, i.e. New Year's Eve, Forth of July, Christmas eve or even of Spring Break. This will help your guest plan ahead. Especially if you are having guest that are coming from out of town and they might need to book a hotel room.

3. Do you want to send them out? With the trend of Save the Date cards being more of the informal invitation these are fun to let you and your soon-to-be-husbands personalities shine. Before Save the Date cards were simply a card that stated that you were going to be getting married and that an invitation would soon be following. Now a days Brides are using their imagination and sending anything from simple to elaborate Save the Date "cards". For Example one if the Brides that I am working with is having a beautiful and Formal event in Las Vegas, but since they are a fun, young and vibrant couple they wanted to have fun with their save the date "cards" They sent a magnet that stated the norm, who they were and what they were doing and then along with it a poker chip,

So if sending out Save the Date cards seems like nothing more then a hassle then don't. But if it is something that you would like to do, have fun with it. After all it is your Wedding and you want to do it right.

I hope this helped, GOOD LUCK

I am in the same boat, deciding if we want to send them out or not. Other couples I know have done some fun things. Once couple had huge plastic clips made with their date on it for people to clip in the planners or agendas as a reminder, I've seen bookmarks with the couples name and date on it, I have also seen the magentic ones as well. Another idea for saving some $$ if you do want to send them out is to get postcards made instead of cards. This saves on the postage.

I would send out a save the date is it's during a busy season (holiday or summer). I ordered my save the date magnets through this company Best Buy Imprints

Take a look, they are offering 15% off.

Best Wishes,
Christine

We decided to move our wedding date to 07.04.2009 so we will be having a 4th of July wedding. So will be sending out save the date to family and friends that live far away. Our friends here in town already know the date. I actually just bought some today. I work at Wal-Mart and we had some cute ones cleranced down to $1.00 for a 20 pk. I was like SCORE! I figure we are going to put the Save the Date in our Christmas cards when we send them out in December. That way our guests will have plenty of time to make travel arrangments. I am also making cute magnets for our friends and family. I bought these double heart paper coasters at the dollar store (24 in a pk) and I am writing our names in colored ink in the hearts and the date below. I then bought some magnetic tape at wal-mart ($0.77 for a pack) and am cutting small pieces of magnetic tape to put on the back. All together I spent maybe $10 for my save the date cards and save the date magnets and it won't really be any additional postage (maybe a penny or two becuase of the magnet) becuase we will send them with our Christmas cards.

I did my own and sent them to people who were out of town and family.
Giving them plenty of time to make arrangements if they wanted to attend.
