Lol, so I know I'm the first voter, but its impressive to be the full 100% of the vote.

And really, although the videographer will be a friend, he is also a professional and HE offered to do so as his gift to us. I guess really my vote is "friend/the best one we can find".

I have looked for a pro videographer, but through my looking I found that they want way too much for what I get in return. I have found packages ranging from $500 to $5000. The $500 is the very basic in that it is just what they shot there is no editing and the $5000 is a great package but there is no way that I am paying that much for a video that we might watch 10 times. We decided to ask a friend for this reason.

it may sound weird, but my DJ is actually doing my video. It's not the best, but its better than a shaky family member. And he does a little bit of editing. I've seen his work and im happy with it.

We are having one of my good friends be our videographer. He's done some of our other friends' weddings and he does a great job. He's super social, makes sure he talks to everyone, and just keeps the weddings very personal and special. I highly recommend going with a friend, if you are on a tight budget....

I am having a destination wedding (Vermont) and hiring a videographer from home (NJ). He will be worth it. I have seen his work and know him, personally. It looks like the people in the destination area cost about the same, anyway. BTW, I have been quoted $2,500 to 3000 for the day to be taped, edited and to get all the footage.
Good luck!

I hate to burst your bubble ladies, but most if not all wedding videos shot by friends turn out really badly. Your friends will be there to have fun and enjoy themselves, they will not be interested in shooting your movie for free. I got married a few years ago and I hired an inexpensive videographer because we just didn't have enough for the really fancy ones. I'm sure you already know how quickly your budget evaporates. We spent way too much on photos. Anyway, we had some family members volunteer to shoot video also, so we figured we would combine the two. I was so glad I hired a videographer! The family videos were horrible! They were shaky, all over the place, out of focus, too close in people faces, and grainy when it got dark. We had a small wedding and only spent $500 for the video, but we were so happy when we saw the pro version compared to the family version. I would have been crushed if I had placed all my hopes on what my family and friends shot. We used this company called Advanced Video. They only cover Southern California but if you need a video of your entire wedding for $500 I would sure recommend them. If you need some other choices, I came across this other website the other night, and they have wedding vendors all across the country, maybe you can find a cheap videographer in your neck of the woods, try Best Wedding Pros.

Because many brides are telling me that the day will fly by and I need to take it all in, I am going to hire a videographer. I have read on other message boards where brides regreted it because it was a blurr. I want to see everything.

I am looking for someone on Craigslist, but I am also willing to pay the most for the photographer and videographer because these are going to be permanent memories while everything else is rented or will be thrown away.

Where are you getting married? I have a great video person who will travel. Would love to refer him, if you are interested. I am in NJ (so is he) but we are having him travel to VT.
Good luck!
