Need a Photographer!
We are t rying to save some money on our wedding by hiring a cheaper photographer. Any ideas? The cheapest photographer we have is Mahoneyphoto.com. He is local and very convienent, but again, if we can find cheaper...it would be better! Our wedding will take place in the Northwest WA.

Re: Need a Photographer!
looking at the prices on his site, that photographer is pretty inexpensive as far as professional photography goes. I was planning on getting a pro to take our pics, but then decided to have friends and family do it. I am emphasizing that cameras are more than welcome at our wedding, and designated my aunt (who takes good pictures) to be the "wedding photographer" this way she feels included, and we save some cash. Another idea that we are debating is including blank R/W CDs as part of the favor with a note asking that any pictures be written on the disk and sent to us, or just emailed. This way we will get tons of different perspectives, but are sure to get the formal shots from my aunt. Kinda long winded post, but in short, other than family, it looks like the photographer that you chose is going to be your cheapest bet.

Welcome to kopykatservices.com
Very nice prices. Contact name is Susan Smith.
I'm using her for videography; it's only costing me $550.
She also does photography, too.

Do not skimp on the photography, the photos are what will stay with you forever and if they are poor quality you cant go back and do it again. I have also heard nightmareish stories about people having family do it. In many cases you can save money by skipping on an album and putting one together yourself, or just hireing them for a few hours to take the posed shots and have friends and family do your candid shots.

Re: Need a Photographer!
MeganAnn raises a great point. It's often worth the cost of a professional photographer rather than risking losing those once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities because the relative in charge of pictures was catching up with someone they haven't seen in an age. If that doesn't happen, you run the risk of alienating that individual and causing resentment once the day comes, since all the rest of the family will be enjoying themselves, and they'll have to work. That's not why family goes to weddings. You can bet they'll take photos, sure, and they'll probably all be every bit as awesome as the ones you pay for, but it's worth doing some research to find a legitimate company and pay for the service.
Just one guy's opinion.

Re: Need a Photographer!
hi, i am new around here. in my opinion, when getting a photographer we should always ask for free estimates first especially if we have a tight budget. if you are living around Louisiana wedding photographers somehow offer this kind of service. we should only do some asking so that we will work with photographers who give affordable services.

Re: Need a Photographer!
Megan - couldn't agree more with your post. I cannot tell you how many brides I've talked to over the years and any of them who had a family member take the images was extremely disappointed. The only time it works is if the family member is a professional photographer - but like Megan said - they have to work at your wedding rather than be a guest. I say go with the pro! And if you have any flexibility in your budget, skimp on the paper napkins and sugar covered almonds and get the best photographer your money can buy. You won't regret it!
