Is a Guest book necessary?
Here's my question-we're having a small, intimate wedding. 25-35 people, all immediate family members. We're not doing the traditional reception-it's going to be a formal, sit-down dinner at a resort, where we're having the ceremony. Do I have to have a guest book? It just doesn't seem necessary to me, but I want to have a valid argument because I know my mother isn't going to agree (she doesn't agree with anything I have done for the wedding so far!)
Please!!!! Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Is a Guest book necessary?
A guest book is definitely not necessary. But there are different versions of it that may appease you and your mother. Like I've seen the photo one, where you have a photo of you and FH with a thick picture matte around it that the guests sign, then you'll have a reminder of your day and guests that you'll actually look at again!
We're doing a sort of yearbook approach. I had a book made up by Snapfish with a bunch of pics of my fiance' and I throughout our relationship that people can look through and sign.
As with everything, it is your wedding and ultimately your decision
Best wishes~

Re: Is a Guest book necessary?
I agree with Tiffany, you don't have to have the traditional guest book, you could have something else that would remind you and your FH of your special day and make your mother happy at the same time. You can buy picture mattes to sign, I've seen large plates too. If it is such a big deal to your mother, make her in charge of it and then you don't have to worry about it, and she'll be happy.

If you don't want a guest book, you can do something different, such as having a guest "book" frame, vase, or plate. These pictures came from The Wedding Shoppe. www.theweddingshoppe.ca

Re: Is a Guest book necessary?
it is not really necessary but it would be lovely.
Imagine looking back to your wedding years from now, through a guestbook and messages who wished you well.
For a guestbook suggestion: Have your picture framed with a big one, with lots of space around it, so the guests could sign their names on it.
And then you could just post the frame at home later. :-)

I think guestbook is important, but not so necessary.
Better have it on your wedding.

Re: Is a Guest book necessary?
A guest book is not a neccessity, but I can't imagine a couple wanting something to remind them of those who shared their day with them. If cost is an issue, the idea's above are great, but a small guest book is really not that expensive.
I would go with some form of guest book, no matter how small the wedding in the future I think you would be glad you did.

In my opinion, you must have a guestbook for your ceremony. It's an important thing. Do not forget it.

Re: Is a Guest book necessary?
I think traditional guestbooks are unnecessary - obviously you know who is there from the RSVPs and you know their addresses because you send them an invitation. That said, I think a non-traditional guestbook is wonderful, especially for a small wedding. You can have something that allows people to write you a brief note or do something more personal.
I bought a cardboard spiral book from oriental trading company and sort of "scrapbooked" it with pictures of my fiance and I as well as ample space for guests to sign and write a note.
