Valentine's Day Wedding?
So, here's my dilemma. We're planning our wedding for February 2009. We were thinking February 21st, but then we realized that we could do it President's weekend to better accommodate out of town guests by planning it for a 3-day weekend. Then we realized that the Saturday on President's Day Weekend was Valentine's Day. I, personally, wouldn't be offended by going to a Valentine's Day wedding, but I know there are people that think that holidays should be forbidden for these types of events because many families/couples have traditions or would prefer doing their own thing and that it's selfish to expect people to come to a wedding on a holiday. I just want to take advantage of the 3-day weekend. What do you guys think?

Re: Valentine's Day Wedding?
I see where you're coming from, but in this situation I wouldn't get too worried. I mean, if you were talking about getting married on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's or even Halloween, then yeah I'd say I don't think that's a good idea. But Valentine's Day? Nah. It's one of those holidays that people either forget about (i.e. husbands lol) or people just exchange a card and a box of chocolates. Think about it. Older couples most likely just exchange a little gift on this holiday, if anything at all. So I don't think attending a wedding would screw up any plans. Younger couples are more likely to make dinner reservations on this holiday. But how romantic would it be for a new, young couple to attend a wedding on Valentines Day? I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Re: Valentine's Day Wedding?
I think it would be awesome, just hope that you aren't using roses as the decor (can get super pricey for V-day.)

I think Valentines day is the perfect day to get married. Most don't see it as a family holiday...its a holiday for couples.

Re: Valentine's Day Wedding?
Valentine's day is the best day to get married.
Me and my fiancee were also planning on february 14th, 2009, actually that's our boyfriend/girlfriend anniversary date...
but we had to change it because my church was not available on that day. (I'm Christian Orthodox).
If you have the chance to do it on that date.. DO IT.
decoration should be red & white LOOOOOVVVVEEEEEE

Re: Valentine's Day Wedding?
I LOVE the idea of having a wedding on Valentine's Day. I can understand how you would feel about the whole holiday thing, but like everyone else has been saying, it's a couples holiday, and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind attending a wedding on Valentine's Day. It makes you realize how much you really love the person you're with, and the fact that you're attending a reception too, means that you can party all night with your boyfriend/fiance(e) or spouse. I really like the idea of it.
Hope this has helped you out!

[Edit: My fiance and I are getting married on our 2 year anniversary, of when we started dating, and our theme is lilies, and white, with a splash of yellow and pink to bring out the colors in the flowers. So, we're kind of having a seasonal wedding I guess you could call it. I think, if you're still kind of worried about the whole wedding on Valentine's Day thing, make the theme a little different from it. Like, for instance, don't do pink, red and white, do blue, green and yellow, or something. Understand what I'm trying to say?]

Re: Valentine's Day Wedding?
I thought about getting married on vday 2009 when my fiance and I started looking at 2009 wedding dates but his mom and dad got married on Valentines Day and have since divorced so I don't think it would entirely be appropriate so we are planning a July 11 wedding. I think it will be a great day to share your love with your friends and family, plus the guys will thank you for not having to remember to make dinner reservatinos.
