Question To register or not to register...that is the question.

Since my fiance' and I have lived together for a year and have an established household, we really don't need to register for anything. I would have been okay with registering for a few things that we could maybe upgrade, but FH says no way, we don't need anymore crap.
While I do agree with that, my thoughts are that people are going to buy us crap whether we ask for it or not, may as well be crap we asked for

Now that the invitations are out and rsvp's are coming in, people are asking, "what can we get you? Where are you registered?" It seems kind of tacky to say that we're not registering, but we certainly will take cash!
I've been trying to use word-of-mouth that we have a lot of projects at home and would welcome gift cards from a home improvement store...but I still feel bad not having any physical gift ideas for them.

I know FH would flat out refuse to come register with me, so I guess my question is (yes, I'm just now getting to it, haha) Would you go basically behind your fiance's back and register for a few things or just let it go..?

I would say that if you know that there are some things that you want to upgrade anyway, then explain that to the FH and see if he is willing to budge on havig a smaller registry and having word of mouth let everyone know you need cash and gift cards. It isn't the best idea to go behind your man's back and register (IMO) because when he finds out that you did, it is not going to be a great start of your marriage.

I would talk to your FH and decided what items you may want to upgrade in your house. You said you have a lot of projects, if you are remodeling or redecorating, this would be the perfect time to get those items. Otherwise just let your guests know that you are looking for gift cards so you can continue fixing up your house. I agree that you should not go behind your FH's back and register. You two are bound to be together when someone asks you about where you are registered or something about your registry. Maybe suggest some items for the registry that your FH may like.

Thumbs up Re: To register or not to register...that is the question.

Thanks for your opinions girls
I didn't mean to sound like going register "behind his back" would be a major double-cross. I don't think he'd be angry or anything, that's why I couldn't decide to go register for a few harmless things without him...
Now I think since it really is so few things that we'd need, I will just use those as suggestions for people who have asked me for specific ideas and not actually go register for them. I know he won't be disappointed when we get a deep fryer, haha.
Thanks again
