Budget vs What I Want
My FH and I have agreed upon a budget of 5000 to 7500. 7500 being with honeymoon. But the venue I want is going to be 2k but it's for the ceremony and reception. Do U Guys think I should reevaluate?

Re: Budget vs What I Want
wow.. to me, thats alot. i hope that includes food?? does it? and what else do you get for that price? do they provide the chairs for ceremony, tables, chairs and linens for reception?? it has to be a decision you and your FH make together..and, you need to evaluate how much everything else is going to cost.(depending on the guest list) for example.. if you do take this place, you have 3k for EVERYTHING ELSE! so, in my case, my pictures are running 2800, cake 500, dj 1000(also doing video)... and thats not even including flowers, limo, invitations, etc.
im pretty much in your same price budget range..so, i would try to find a cheaper venue.
hope this helps

Re: Budget vs What I Want
I recently picked up a wedding book that helps with planning and budgeting a wedding. It suggested making 2 identical lists of everything you're going to spend money on, from the location all the way down to the honeymoon. Then it says to give one of the lists to your FH and have him number the list according to what he thinks the 2 of you should spend the most money on down to what you should spend the least on. You would do the same on the other list, then when you're both done, compare the 2 lists. My FH and I did this the other night. It was interesting, I'll say that much lol. But it was helpful.

Re: Budget vs What I Want
Did your lists compare - even a little bit? Mine sure won't!!!
For your reception you want to determine what kind of atmosphere you want before you commit to the 2000. I too am in the same range for budget but the bulk of my money is going towards the reception. The wedding - in my case is simply a formality and should only take 10 min max. - Create a MUST have list vs. Want list.

Re: Budget vs What I Want
I think 2 things on the lists we rated the same lol. The problem I think, was my FH was numbering everything according to what he thought I would want. Which now I know I shoulda explained a little more clearly that he was supposed to number everything to what HE thought was more important lol. Ugh...men. And one thing too, he forgot that we're not going to get a limo or anything like that ~ and he rated transportation a #6 I think lol. I put that last on my list because I knew we weren't going to even get one.

Re: Budget vs What I Want
lol - I am not having transportation either as the ceremony and wedding are at the same location. We are however are renting a bus to have family shipped in from the train station and hotels to the ceremony - parking is very limited on my street (my wedding will be in my backyard - we have an amazing three level yard with a rock wall and built in rock benches. The top level ends in miles of woods. When I bought the house I knew our wedding would be held there.

Re: Budget vs What I Want
*sigh* you're so lucky you have a nice backyard lol. I just said to my FH last night that I wish we knew someone with a nice backyard to have the wedding. It would save a good chunk of money. But yeah, I don't see any reason to need transportation for our own wedding. I don't have any huge desire to make that grand entrance and we're also having the ceremony and reception at the same location. Plus we don't have a ton of 'out of town' guests. I think just 2 people lol. So I'm pretty sure we could arrange something for those guests to get picked up...and that's only if they don't have a vehicle. Both guests are from New York (we're in MA) so those guests may drive in.

Re: Budget vs What I Want
Ya'll are so Helpful. I plan on the side for other people but it's like I told my Aunt this is a whole new story. The Venue that i want is 1400 for eight hours, the Rehersal is 75, the ceremony is 150 and the bridesmaids room is 50.00. This includes Eight hours of the entire first floor of the mansion, patio, parking lots, in-house flowers, all candles, silver punch bowl, silver champagne/ice buckets, antique silver cooffee service, antique silver loving cups, silver cake knives, free consulting service from there wedding consultants, brides room w/private powder room, complete set-up & breakdown and a staff hostess on hand.
Jonathan would never sit down with me and do a list he just like HERE is the budget and get whatever you want. I'm having 75 to 100 people max, and I want it afternoon so that we can have an all out dessert course. LOL Candy FREAK!!!! that and it's cheaper to do dessert. I want min flowers I will need a total of 40 single stem flowers for my entire wedding party. I'm not sure exactly what i want for table center's but I'm not a BIG flower person so I think I want to decorate with candles and the favors
My colors are Black and white with accent colors.
My Bridesmaids will have a single different color rose that symbols something and the meaning will be wrote down on a small scroll tied around the stem of the rose.
Let's see what else. Um anymore question?
