Question Need your thoughts here ladies

What would you think if you attended a wedding that had china salad plates and soup bowls, but then had disposable plates at the buffet and plastic cups at the bar? I really need everyone's HONEST oppinion.

Honestly?...I would probably wonder who broke the dinner plates? Any particular reason you are asking? If you are using disposable plates and cups...save your self some dishwashing and use disposable across the board.

Well, the place where we're having the wedding only offers disposable products. I plan on having them serve the soup and salad at the tables, family style. So, I was planning on renting salad plates and soup bowls. But for the buffet portion, I was thinking of just having the venue's disposable plates set up in stacks at the buffet tables. I wasn't planning on having to rent all of this stuff. So, it's an expense we don't have budgeted. I want my wedding to still be somewhat classy ~ and having ALL disposable products doesn't achieve that.

I know you can get some pretty nice looking disposable dishes that are plastic (clear, black, silver, gold) and that might be a better bet. I think it is better to go with all one type of plates, bowls, etc. because having both might look less classy than having all disposable.

i agree... my caterer provides this stuff... so you might talk to your caterer... unless your reception venue is also the one catering... otherwise... what my caterer said they would provide is this stuff called crystal wear (i think) its a clear hard plastic that is so durable that if you really wanted to you could keep and reuse (its even dishwasher safe) he said he gets it from sam's club for little more than what you would pay for regular disposable...

I agree here too... these days you can get some very nice (and not too cheap, either!) disposable items. We're thinking about going this route for a party we're having after the actual reception.

I think you should stick with plastic like they have said . . . there are some gorgeous plastic plates that look like glass . . . look into those because if someone breaks something you will most likely have to pay for it!!

sorry Mandy.. but I have to say I agree with the other girls... you will be best off having one type for soup, salad and dinner... it may look tacky other wise. Good luck on your search, let us know what ya find!

There are many places that are now specializing in plastic plates that look real. I can't remember the website, but do a google search on "plastic plates that look real", and you will find the sites that you can go to. I bought forks that look like real forks online.

I personally think that you should go the all disposable route because I would think it real that the soup bowls are real, but the plates are not. Now if everything was real or disposable, I probably wouldn't even think twice about it. Plus to me, disposable is cheaper and easier to clean up at the end of the night, but that is because I am on a budget.
