Default Re: seating chart vs no seating chart

I am having a very large wedding with a sit down wedding. It seems too complictated to make a seating chart for so many people when they most likely are just going to move anyways. I went to one large wedding where they placed cards on the table and guests checked what they had chosen (beef, chicken, veg....) and then waiters picked them up and brought food back out. I am just curious on anyone elses opinions on just having a seating chart for my close family and participates in the wedding and letting the rest seat themselves.

Cool real quick question...

What would you consider a SMALL wedding, like how many people? I'm hoping to have just both of our families, and a few friends each there, and the friends would be in the party. So, we're looking at somewhere around 25-45 people, depending on who all RSVP's. Would that be considered a small wedding?

You see, my parents aren't exactly happy for me getting married, and therefore, refuse to pay for ANYTHING in the wedding. So it's up to just me and my fiance to pay for everything, and it's very stressful. We kind of decided to have a smaller wedding just because it's a lot cheaper the smaller it is. So we're both just kind of like, oh great, what now? I don't plan on using a seating chart, cause I know my family doesn't care who sits with who.

Hope you all can help, possibly.
Thanks,
Marissa<3

[Edit: Kelseynl, I think you've got a good idea with seating your family according to a chart, that way, you know that they won't miss anything. Good idea!]

one thing ive seen done in lieu of a seating chart but with a sit down meal is the place cards were placed at the entrance and everyone picked theres up as they went in. It had our entree on it so the server knew and it discouraged people changing their minds at the last minute causing a potential catastrophe in the kitchen

also someone mentioned the seating of bridal party dates, I have always liked them being allowed to sit next to their date (if u are picky about the appearance and dont want that many people its not an option) but too many times ive been the date in the awkward situation of sitting with people i dont know.
