Question Anyone else a DIY bride?

Hello! I'm new here, but this looks like a great site. It also means I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right place, so if I'm not...well...forgive the newbie;-). I was just wondering if anyone else is DIYing their wedding. Personally, I'm doing my own flowers, invitations, centerpieces, possibly my veil and favors (once I figure out what those will be for sure.) I was just wondering what the rest of you were doing and where you were finding reasonable supplies to do it.

Oh, and it's great to be here:-)

Welcome Katie! I too am planning on doing most of my own wedding. As far as invitations, I was going to print my own too until I found some on Ann's Bridal Bargains and they were actually cheaper to have them print the invites than it would have been for us to at home. I am still going to make my own RSVP post cards, but I will have my invites printed from Anns. I would check out www.annsbridalbargains.com becuase they have a lot of inexpensive wedding supplies. I also love the Oriental Trading Company
Party supplies, crafts, party decorations, toys: Oriental Trading. They have a wedding section and you can order a catalog from both places, just for references. If you have any Dollar Tree stores in your area they have a lot of nice stuff too. I am getting my bubbles for my ceremony, my favor bags, and all my vases for my centerpieces. (plus more I'm probably forgetting right now. If you don't have on in your area you can order some stuff from their website Bulk School Supplies, Restaurant Supplies, Cleaning Supplies, Gifts & Party Supplies - DollarTreeDirect.com but you have to order in bulk by the case if you order from their website. Hope that's a good start for ya.

Hi , Im a newbie too ! My ceremony /reception site includes in their price the linens , center pieces ( they arent real flowers but they are still very pretty lol) top shelf bar , all the food , wedding cake , the arch etc . But I want to do my own favors , I was thinking little boxes or tins w the monogrammed sticker labels ... IDK what Im going to put in them yet ?? and I was wondering about doing my own flowers but Ive never done anything like that before so Im kinda afraid to try it ? I think if you did your own veil , that would be cool , it would mean more to you that way . They have veils for cheap at walmarts and what not if you wanted to do a test run . Im also making my bridesmaids jewelry , Ive been making bracelets for a yr now just for fun , but I have made bracelets using the swarvoski crystals and they came out really pretty . Its actually really easy to do and very inexpenseive !! The sights listed above that " ilovebeef " posted are really good for deals and great prices .

I am also planning and trying to do my wedding all by myself, I have found lots of things in the Oriental Trading Wedding book, also I found that Anns Bridal Bargains is the cheapest way to go on invitations and they are very nice. Good luck. Almost forgot, I found my wedding dress on Lane Bryant.com, they are getting rid of their wedding line and I got my dress for a really great price.

Don't forget the clearance aisles of stores like JoAnns & Michaels. I was poking the other day just to waste time & found DIY programs at JoAnns for less than I've seen them online. BE CAREFUL!!! I got overexcited & bought 10 boxes thinking I would have to combine them to get enough program pages. I got them home & realized that there were inside pages too! What a dope!!! Had I been thinking straight...

But now I have enough for invitations (even b-list), programs, menus, thank yous & some left over! I guess I have a theme!!!! LOL

They also had the CD tins (the round ones) in the clearance aisle. That was something that was on my possible favor list. If you can burn CDs (with music & photos would be great) that might be something to think about.

I helped my best friend with her DIY get your friends involved it is fun. For flowers we went to Wal-Mart and Giant the night before...a lil hint they throw their flowers away in the morning We got them to drop the prices big time and since we were buying so many they didn't think twice about just ask the manager. She got married in fall and used fall colors so that made it simple for flowers. Don't forget to check bargain stores all the time too and be creative!!! we found some great stuff at ollies and big lots you wouldn't think about using!
